Official Post Rally Cruise

Unread post by Mike » Wed Sep 19, 2012 10:29 am

Registration hasn't even opened yet, and already I know some teams would like to see a bit more of Canada. Especially those who have never been here. So I plan to organize a 'post rally return trip' for those heading to the mid-west/central USA. You could come along for a day, two or three depending on where you need get to ultimately, or how quickly you want to get home.

I propose one of two routes, depending on how quickly you need to get home.

Route 1 - The Scenic Route
  • -Friday leave Saint John, drive to Quebec city (8 hours roughly). Quebec is very french, and very European looking.
-Saturday leave Quebec City, drive to Ottawa (our nations capital...our Washington). It is 5 hours
-Sunday Leave Ottawa, drive to Toronto area (5 hours). Maybe all head downtown on the train for a night out.
Route 2 - Faster Route
  • -Friday Leave Saint John, drive just past Quebec city (8.5 hours)
-Saturday Leave Quebec City, drive to Toronto Area (8.5 hours).
Either way, from Toronto the following cities are this far away:
-Detroit 3.5 hours
-Chicago 8 hours
-Indianapolis 8 hours
-Pittsburgh 4-5 hours
-Buffalo 1.5 hours

Anyone interested, let me know which route you would prefer and how many days you would tag along for. I am partial to route 1 myself...I love extra checkpoints and making the rally last longer.

P.S. - those who live on the east coast of the USA should check out Halifax or P.E.I. if you get a chance.

I may not tag along, but I do suggest that you guys see P.E.I. and/or Quebec, they really are great places to see. and by Quebec I mean the old Quebec.

Yup, that is where I plan to visit with the crew. You should make that one day stop :giggle:

I can't wait to see the 'muricans freak out when all the road signs turn French once we cross the Quebec border. Pretty scary many might rely on my French to help figure things out. :snicker:

Haha well considering I don't have far to go home this year I may tag along for a day or two. And I can read a tiny bit of French, but I'm still gonna play follow the leader haha

This sounds like a lot of fun! The two Georgia teams (TDI and 944) have been talking a little bit about going to Halifax, and St. Johns, NL. We figure that this could very well be the only time we are that close to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, and it would be really nice to go. We both have to wait until closer to the rally to get things set in stone, as we don't know how our work schedules will work out. Doing any extra mileage coming from Saint John will ad probably 4-7 days onto out trip. However, as the rally comes closer, we might join you for one of these routes.

Hi Mike.

Lindsay and I, babysitter pending, would be interested in option #1.

The only change for use would be to wave adieu at Toronto and continue to Buffalo on Sunday.

Not sure which of the fleet will be employed in 2014...

Anyone know how long of a trip it is to Halifax from St. John's? I realize I could Google the distance, but I was wondering about ferries and such if anyone had already been there.

Gail and I might be interested, we were already discussing talking extra time to make sure we go through Niagra Falls. Looks like your route wouldn't be too far out of the way

That looks like a nice road. I do know for a fact that there is an epic road between B and C on this map.

Just a suggestion to stir up the pot a bit.

Alright, I am going to get on this real soon.

Can I get a confirmed number of people who:
A) Are going to the Montreal-ish hotel on night one
B) Are coming to Toronto on Day 2 return
C) Are coming to the ball game on Sunday July 28th

Gail and I are in. We already have Astros t-shirts that have our team number on them. We have been looking at this pretty hard and have decided that we will probably leave here Thursday afternoon the 18th and make it to Niagra Falls Saturday before the Rally. Then treck back across Canada for the Ball Game on Sunday. Monday and Tuesday will be spent getting back to Florida Via Detroit. So Mike we are in, unless we go broke at the Pre-rally auction like we did last year. And someone can promise me that we are not going to Mexico next year!
