Taking entries for Dustball 500

Unread postby deanslist.us » Mon May 03, 2010 4:05 pm

This is a great single-day event for those that either cannot make it to the big Dustball in August, or those that would like to train or brush up for it. If you have never done Dustball before, this event is highly recommended not only to prepare you for the big one, but also to give you a taste of what's to come.

Did your team have a hard time finding Gimmicks during previous year's Dustball? Those that attend the annual Dustball 500 know what to look for, as this is the training ground for the main Dustball Rally in August! Dustball HQ tests and implements new gimmick techniques and tactics during the DBR500 event, which are then used on a larger scale in the longer Dustball. So if you want to get the inside scoop on new types of gimmicks, and give your team that competitive edge, be sure not to miss the Dustball 500! Where else can you get effective Dustball Rally training?? Also, certain elements of the Dustball Challenge are to be implemented.

-All are invited to attend, only $50 per team (one vehicle with two persons)
-Limited to 25 teams.
-Safety Brief is June 25, 2010.
-Launch, Finish and Awards are June 26, 2010
-Start and Finish is in El Paso, route is undisclosed.

This is the message sent out to the teams that participated:

Big congratulations goes out to all teams that made the Dustball 500 a grand success and safe event. And it look like many teams benefited greatly from the tips, tricks and secrets revealed discussion that was conducted. Most teams missed less than 4 questions on the 500, which was comparatively setup similar to day one from the 2009 Dustball 1500.

Here are your winners:

1st Place: #7 Team BP vs The Gulf Coast (El Paso)

2nd Place: #05 The A-Team (Santa Fe)

3rd Place: #27 Team DSTP Motorsports (El Paso)

Congratulations once again and we look forward to seeing many of you in August for the big Dustball Rally 1500!!!

it was great, they passed by Guadalupe Peak, which is the highest peak in Texas. Then later drove on the 118 scenic route near Ft. Davis which is the highest road in Texas. Plenty of long-open flats, hills and twisties for a good mixture. They only had to drive on about 100 miles of Intersate highway, and the final gimmick was to build a GPS coordinate through several mathematical equations from answers on the test. The GPS coordinate was that of the finish line so they could plan the remainder of their route on their own, although during the first 380 miles they were required to solve the prescribed course through a variety of gimmicks and puzzles found along the way.

We managed to keep the majority of the trip on a great variety of backroads and scenic highways rather than long-straight interstates...so they appreciated that as it makes it less boring and more exciting...which kept them awake!
