Spare tire Conundrum

Unread post by Bubbaville Fire Unit » Sun Feb 26, 2012 10:55 am

So many cars looking for that balance of weight and power and speed, are forgoing the need for a spare..so they give us an onboard air compressor and a plug kit, which i have used..But last year while in the grasps of the CCGTO clan and them being together someone carried at least 1 full size spare..But now that I am "alone" in a Dodge Charger, I decided to Pull the trigger and get a full size spare which may take up some room in the trunk..well a bunch of room. But at least the weight will be off my shoulders with some new rubber all around and a full size spare..So has any one actually run the rally without a spare..I'm sure they have right..but Imagine trying to get a 275/40-20 in Bum'F..Kentucky?? (sorry, just an example)

I ran last year w/o a spare.....I always do. A spare is useless for me b/c of the 19's on my car. And finding a 285/35/R19 in stock is impossible.....he'll finding them in general is getting harder and more expensive.

Around here local, I normally don't run with a spare in the car, (offset the wight of the sub box). But for the rally I did remove the subs and add the factory "donut" spare, which is a 15" aluminum rim.

I intially thought of just finding a doughnut or a steelie that would fit my bolt pattern, But the wheel investment wasnt too high and the thought of having that spare on board and changing and keep on truck'n Vs. spending the rest of the day finding "that" place to get my fat tire or your 19" size ..just felt smart?

I carry a plug kit & a compressor and a doughnut. The Mustangs have so little cargo space. Plus I don't run the very LOW profile tires which I think helps as the tires have some room to give on the potholes. If I hit a nail or a screw in the tread I'll be ok if it's a sidewall I'm limping to the closest tire shop. It's a dice roll we all have to look at when planning.

There may be "space for rent" in the back of my TUNDRA this year....
Not sure which of the fleet will be employed in 2014...

Had a spare under the truck for the rally last year, but when I have the car, I usually never have one with me. I usually have a plug kit and the little compressor. Haven't needed it "yet", but I feel better with that than nothing at all.

If I could get the tire to start then I WOULD already have the space :)

I have the factory spare in the car right now, however I have been playing with the idea of taking one of my stock 17x8's in its place if they dont sell. Probably wont bring the tools, jack, and jackstands with me this year since they did me a whole lot of good last year lol (others, well that is a different story).

We ran last year with no spare. Just the can of fix-o-flat and compressor that came with the Mustang, the year before that (and this year) we had the truck, it's spare and Brian's spare to his Camero in the back. I should have some extra room this year if anyone needs their spare moved from point a to point b.
